The Heart of Teaching Conference

Sponsored by the Saint Vincent College Education Department and the Western Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of English (WPCTE), The Heart of Teaching conference will feature informative, interactive, and trendsetting professional learning sessions delivered by some of our best local educators and organizations with a focus on active learning of ELA, SEL, reading and writing across the curriculum, technology, and general teaching concepts that have immediate application to grades 4-12 schools and classrooms. March 20, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM and St. VIncent College, Fred Rogers Center, Latrobe, PA.

Discover how the "Fred Method" is helping every learner thrive in this professional development opportunity for formal and informal educators along with parents and caregivers.

This is a free professional development event, ACT 48 Credit is available.Learn from fellow educators who make Mister Rogers matter still today.

This event is hosted by "When YouWonder, You're Learning:  Mister Rogers' Edurign Lessons for Raising Creative, Curious, Caring Kids."  You will also hear from guest speakers from the Fred Rogers Institute and Project Fuel, along with many other presenters.

The Meet and Geeks are back! 

We will be holding our Meet and Geek Meet Ups again this year, times and locations to be announced at a later date.  We are hoping to hold them in person, but have a fall back position of VIRTUAL MEET UPS if necessary.  Please keep up to date on events around the state by checking the PAECT calendar on the site's homepage.

TRETC Proposals Due

TRETC, The Three Rivers Educational Technology Conference is looking for proposals for PRESENTATIONS, INNOVATION ZONE, STUDENT SHOWCASE, and POSTER SESSIONS. TRETC is a great regional conference, many PAECT members  and KTI Stars have presented in the past, continue the rich tradition.  Click HERE to check it out.

BirdBrain and CodeJoy Webinar

Looking for some FREE PD? Spend an hour with BirdBrain Technologies and CodeJoy Education and learn about hands-on robotics in the classroom. Find out how you can use BirdBrain’s products, the Hummingbird robotics kit and the Finch Robot, to support coding, engineering design, and creative problem solving. As part of the hour, you’ll be invited to experience one of CodeJoy’s remote robot programming shows, and will learn how you can use these shows to build excitement in your students and school for hands-on robotics. All attendees will have the opportunity after the session to borrow a Finch Robot or Hummingbird Robotics Kit from BirdBrain for free while also accessing our free asynchronous PD courses. We will have sessions April 19th for anyone who took these courses to ask follow up questions and share their learning.  You can register for the event HERE.

GetConnectedELA Sponsored by the Saint Vincent College Education, Communication, and English Departments and the Western Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of English (WPCTE), and PAECT, Get Connected will feature informative, interactive, and trendsetting professional learning sessions delivered by some of our best local ELA, English, Communication, and Reading teachers, and Library/Media Specialists.

BirdBrain and CodeJoy Follow Up Webinar

BirdBrain and CodeJoy Follow Up Office Hours: Check out PAECT.org homepage to register for these TWO follow up sessions to our February 23 Webinar. The 6:30 PM session will focus on the Finch Robot, while the 7:30 session will focus on the Hummingbird.

Come check out TechWorks in Homestead, PA, and try out some of the awesome technology on site!  We will have Playground time at TechWorks with refreshments after at a nearby restaurant.  Come hang meet fellow PAECT members from the area and network while you play!

We will be meeting online to discuss how the various online classrooms and how we are using them in our districts.. We invite you to come learn about Wide Open School, a new, free online portal of resources to support families and educators supporting remote learning in their school communities.

Tech the Halls

Join PAECT on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Allegheny Intermediate Unit for Tech the Halls.  We will be at AIU from 4-6 for sharing of apps, tools, and best practices.  At 6 PM we will move to one of the many restaurants at the Waterfront for Apps and more sharing.  You can register for this event by clicking here.

Makey Makey

PAECT will be hosting TWO Makey Makey trainings in the region, one in the southern area of the region and another in the northern area.  Specific dates, times, and other important details will be released once our plans our finalized.  Please keep checking back for updates.

A Taste of Technology

“Tech-Defying the Old School Classroom”

April 25, 2019 Propel Homestead, 129 East 10th Avenue, Homestead, PA 15120 3:45 PM-7:00 PM.

In this Professional Development seminar, general and special education teachers will gain knowledge, skills, and experiences to be able to utilize educational technology in their classrooms with high levels of mastery.  Topics such as video tutorials, iPad Applications, Google Suite, and Promethean will be covered throughout this session.  Educators will be equipped with highly-effective digital tools that will not only provide them with multiple methods of differentiation never learned before but also ways to deliver formative/summative assessments, data collection programs, and collaboration strategies to quickly change classrooms into student-centered environments.

Inventionland: August 9, 2018

On Thursday, August 9th, NWPAECT and SWPAECT are sponsoring a SUMMER meet-up. We have arranged for a 70 minute tour of the amazing INVENTIONLAND in Pittsburgh, and lunch at a near-by restaurant. The cost of the tour will be FREE for PAECT members and guests. Choose for 10 am tour or 1 pm tour with common meet up for LUNCH at 11:30 at THE LOT at EDGEWATER. Lunch is pay on your own.

Southwest Mini-Keys will be held at the Harrison Middle School in the Baldwin-Whitehall School District, 129 Windvale Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.


This is a FREE EVENT for any PAECT member, there is a $35 cost for non-members.  Join us for a day of new ideas, best practices, camaraderie, and PRIZE PATROL.  


$35 admission fee gets non-members admission to the event, lunch, and a one year's membership in PAECT.

School and Public Library Partnership Summit - The past year’s theme  was "Your Kids."  The event was attended by school librarians, public librarians, instructional / technology coaches and other educators. It was held on Monday, December 16th at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. PAECT sponsored lunch for presenters, keynote speaker and the planning committee.

edCamp Pittsburgh - edCampPGH is an ongoing opportunity to learn, network, and share best practices in education.  This attendee driven event is held twice a year in the Southwest Region.  We are in the planning stages for the Spring 2016 event.  For more information visit https://sites.google.com/a/msbordner.com/edcamppgh/.

TRETC Conference (annual event): The Three Rivers Educational Technology Conference (TRETC) is the premier K-16 educational technology conference in Western Pennsylvania. More than 300 educators from K-12 schools, higher education and non-profits come to the event. In addition, each year more than 25 vendors showcase their new technologies.
